Quantia Curry-Golden, a 33-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on November 26, 2018, in Opa-locka, Florida. Quantia, who was three months pregnant, was shot while sitting in her car with her 13-year-old daughter, C’Lexus Richardson. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the 2500 block of Superior Street. Quantia had just left her job at Northshore Hospital and was picking up her daughter when the shooting happened.
Her daughter, who was also shot in the shoulder, survived the attack and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.
The investigation into Quantia Curry-Golden's death revealed that two teenagers were responsible for the shooting. Zackrus Beckham, a 19-year-old, and a 15-year-old boy were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and attempted felony murder. The police believe the shooting was an attempt to eliminate witnesses, as the gunmen had initially opened fire on a nearby home before targeting Quantia's car. The motive behind the shooting is suspected to be related to a gang-related argument on social media.
Quantia's death added to the family's grief, as her brother had been fatally shot in 2011. The family, still reeling from the loss, has been vocal about the ongoing issue of gun violence in their community. Despite the arrests, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continues, with detectives urging anyone with information to come forward.
