Lemonta Rashard Wynn, a 26-year-old Black man, was tragically shot to death on August 20, 2018, in Melbourne, Florida. The incident occurred late Monday night in the Lipscomb Street area, marking the 23rd homicide in Brevard County that year and the 11th murder of a Black man. Wynn was found inside a boarding house, bleeding from a gunshot wound to his side. Despite being rushed to Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were initially unclear, with police unable to determine if Wynn was shot at the residence or elsewhere. His last known address was in Indian River County.
The investigation revealed that Wynn was involved in a confrontation with another individual before the shooting. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots earlier in the evening, and more gunfire erupted in the distance as officers worked the scene. Despite these reports, no immediate arrests were made, and the case remained under investigation for some time. Wynn had a history of legal issues, including charges for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. He had also fled from deputies in Indian River County earlier that year on a sexual battery charge, which was later dropped.
In October 2018, a Brevard County grand jury indicted 25-year-old Reginald Little Jr. on charges of first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a firearm while inflicting death. Investigators determined that Little had planned to rob Wynn and shot him during the attempt. After the shooting, Little fled the area but was captured a month later in New York. He was transported back to Brevard County, where he remained in jail without bond. Little's indictment brought some closure to the case, highlighting the tragic end of Lemonta Rashard Wynn's life and the ongoing issues of gun violence in the community.
