Joshua "Josh" Barran, aged 29, tragically lost his life on March 7, 2018, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The incident was identified as a murder-suicide involving Donald Shaffer, 55. On the day of the incident, Barran was driving a truck with Heather Shaffer, 36, as his passenger. Heather Shaffer was the estranged wife of Donald Shaffer. As they were driving, Heather noticed that they were being followed by Donald Shaffer in a white sedan.
In an attempt to evade him, Barran made several turns before eventually parking in a driveway on Southwest Fletcher Lane.
Donald Shaffer approached the truck and shot Barran in the head with a .357 Magnum revolver. The truck then accelerated and crashed into a nearby home. Following this, Donald Shaffer shot himself in the chest near the truck's passenger door. Barran was rushed to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, where he succumbed to his injuries. Donald Shaffer died at the scene.
