Marcus Davis Leath, a 39-year-old African American man from Port St. Lucie, Florida, tragically lost his life on August 21, 2021. Marcus, affectionately known as "Marc" or "Shark," was a beloved figure in his community, known for his work as a DJ and promoter. He was deeply involved in local activities, often participating in peaceful marches and community events. Marcus was described as a person who made everyone feel special and had a talent for bringing people together.

On the night of August 21, 2021, Marcus and his girlfriend were at their home on Las Palmas Way when a group of masked men broke in with the intent to rob them. The assailants forced Marcus at gunpoint to give them money. During the robbery, Marcus's girlfriend managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor. Unfortunately, Marcus was shot twice and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation revealed that four rounds were fired inside the home, two of which struck Marcus, while the other two were believed to be intended for his girlfriend as she fled.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office launched an extensive investigation into Marcus's murder. Through meticulous scrutiny of cell phone data, social media accounts, and video surveillance, investigators were able to identify a vehicle of interest. This breakthrough led to the arrest of three men: Tamarius Bembry, 20; Tramaine Hickman, 24; and Carlos Wilson, 21. All three suspects were charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary of a dwelling with assault and battery while armed. The suspects were already in custody on unrelated charges at the time of their arrest for Marcus's murder.

Sheriff Ken Mascara emphasized that Marcus was a young man who was doing everything right in his life. He had a home, a job, and a career, and was not involved in drugs, gangs, or criminal activities. The sheriff described the suspects as "thugs" who took advantage of Marcus. The investigation also uncovered that the firearm used in Marcus's murder was linked to an unrelated burglary committed by the same suspects earlier in the year.

Marcus's death left a profound impact on his family and community. His mother, Lois Leath, spoke about the mixed emotions she felt following the arrests. While she was relieved that justice was being served, the pain of losing her son remained. The family continues to seek justice and hopes for a resolution that honors Marcus's memory and the positive influence he had on those around him.
