Lavon Walker, a 30-year-old community activist from Brooklyn, New York, was tragically killed on October 9, 2016, in Miami Beach, Florida. Walker, who had dedicated his life to advocating against gun violence, was shot twice outside the iconic News Cafe on Ocean Drive around 7 a.m. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
