Joshua Cadet, a 16-year-old student from Miami Gardens, Florida, tragically lost his life on May 27, 2016. Joshua was a student at Miami Norland Senior High School and was visiting friends when he was shot multiple times. The incident occurred just after midnight in the front yard of a friend's home located along the 18000 Block of Northwest Seventh Place. Several individuals approached Joshua on foot and opened fire, resulting in him being struck by multiple bullets.
Neighbors reported hearing around ten gunshots. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Joshua to Hollywood Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.
The community was deeply affected by Joshua's death. Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho expressed his heartbreak and anger over the loss of another young life to gun violence. Classmates and friends described Joshua as a good person, cool, funny, and someone who could always make others laugh. The sidewalk near the shooting scene was marked with chalk outlines and a message that read, "Don't touch or die," next to a drawing of a gun, highlighting the pervasive fear and violence in the area.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the investigation into Joshua's murder has not yet resulted in any arrests.
