Christopher Lynd "Tater" Smith, a 47-year-old deputy sheriff with the Leon County Sheriff's Office in Tallahassee, Florida, tragically lost his life on November 22, 2014. Deputy Smith was responding to a report of a house fire on Caracus Court when he was ambushed and fatally shot. The assailant, who had intentionally set the fire to lure first responders, approached Deputy Smith from behind and opened fire, killing him instantly.
