Zamari Pierre Louis, a 16-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on January 15, 2014, in Miami Gardens, Florida. On that fateful evening, Zamari was walking home from a convenience store when an unknown assailant or assailants opened fire, fatally wounding him near Northwest 18th Avenue and 151st Street. His mother, Sherita Small, recounted that Zamari had just told her he was going up the street to the Frozen Cup House before the incident occurred.
Shortly after, someone knocked on her door to inform her that her son had been shot. Despite immediate efforts, Zamari succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Zamari was a beloved member of his community, known for his involvement in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and aspired to become a preacher. His family described him as a loving and dedicated individual who had no known enemies. The Miami Gardens Police Department, led by Capt. Jeremy McIntyre, believes that Zamari was likely targeted, although the exact motive remains unclear. Over the years, detectives have exhausted all viable leads, and the case remains unsolved. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of even seemingly trivial details in solving the case.
In the decade since Zamari's death, his family has continued to seek justice, holding press conferences and making public pleas for information. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made, and the identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators remains unknown. The Miami Gardens Police Department has reiterated its commitment to investigating the case to the fullest extent, but the lack of new leads has hindered progress. A reward of $5,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest, and the community remains hopeful that justice will eventually be served for Zamari Pierre Louis.
