Daniel Dale Green, a 47-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on November 13, 2002, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was a dedicated sergeant with the Tallahassee Police Department, having served for 13 years. On the night of his death, Sergeant Green was responding to a home-invasion robbery in the 2500 block of Melody Circle. As he approached the scene, he noticed a suspicious vehicle and reported its description to dispatch.
Moments later, he was ambushed and shot four times, including once in the back of the head.
The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended after a lengthy chase and shootout. The individual responsible for Sergeant Green's death was later convicted of murder on September 8, 2004, and sentenced to life in prison on October 21, 2004. This conviction brought some measure of justice to the family and colleagues of Sergeant Green, who was remembered for his dedication and service to the community.
Sergeant Green's death had a profound impact on the Tallahassee Police Department and the local community. In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Desoto Street in Tallahassee was renamed Sgt. Dale Green Way in May 2014. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Green, and their three children. His legacy continues to be honored by those who knew him and by the community he served so faithfully.
