John D. Owens, a 56-year-old white male, served as the Town Marshal of Wildwood, Florida. On September 6, 1908, he was tragically killed in the line of duty. The incident that led to his death began with a dispute involving a local doctor's dog. Marshal Owens attempted to arrest the doctor, which escalated into a violent confrontation. The doctor shot Owens twice, resulting in his immediate death.
