Henry Osceola Richards, a 32-year-old Deputy Sheriff from Starke, Florida, was tragically killed on November 19, 1903. Deputy Richards, who was of Caucasian ethnicity, had been serving with the Bradford County Sheriff's Office for several years. On the day of his death, he accompanied an attorney to the home of three brothers in Lawtey, Florida, to discuss an upcoming legal case. The brothers harbored a grudge against Deputy Richards, which ultimately led to a fatal confrontation.
