In the summer of 2022, the life of a young Black transgender woman, Renqual Geter, also known as Keshia Chanel Geter, was tragically cut short at the age of 26. On the morning of July 20, 2022, she was discovered deceased at the Knights Inn on Boy Scout Road in Augusta, Georgia. An investigation by the Richmond County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Geter had sustained at least one gunshot wound.
