Joshua McNeil was a caring and ambitious 33-year-old father of four, known by friends and family as a lovable and determined man. Described as a "super dad" and a mentor, the Black man was a graduate of Mitchell Baker High School's class of 2006. He worked for the City of Albany, Georgia, as a welder and was remembered as a friend to everyone he met. His loved ones recalled him as funny, positive, and someone who is deeply missed every day.
On the evening of December 12, 2020, McNeil’s life was cut short in Albany. He was found on the 1400 block of Cromartie Beach Drive. The Dougherty County Coroner’s office was called to the scene to begin a death investigation.
Authorities with the Albany Police Department later confirmed that McNeil had died from a single gunshot wound.
The police department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Officials worked to piece together the events that led to McNeil's death, but details about the circumstances surrounding the incident were not released to the public.
