On a spring afternoon in Thomson, Georgia, the life of Frederick Brooks, a 45-year-old African American man from Decatur, was cut short by gunfire. On May 11, 2017, just after 5 p.m., the sound of shots fired in the 900 block of Kennedy Circle prompted calls to local authorities.
