In the late hours of a summer night in Jonesboro, Georgia, 18-year-old Devin Jackson was inside an apartment on Upper Riverdale Road, sitting on a couch. Outside, a celebration was underway, but the festive atmosphere was shattered shortly after 12:30 a.m. on September 2, 2014, by the sound of gunfire.
