On New Year's Day in 2019, the body of 28-year-old Travis Smart, a male resident of Rosedale, Louisiana, was discovered in a sugarcane field. The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation after receiving a call that morning about the discovery. Initially, authorities were unable to identify the man and released photos of his tattoos to the public in the hopes of doing so. This effort proved successful, and he was soon identified as Travis Smart.
