In the early morning hours of January 4, 2007, the life of 36-year-old filmmaker and artist Helen Wingard Hill was tragically cut short in her New Orleans home. An unknown intruder broke into her house in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood at approximately 5:30 a.m. and fatally shot the female victim. Her husband, Dr. Paul Gailiunas, was also shot multiple times as he shielded their young son, who remained physically unharmed during the violent encounter.
