In the early hours of an autumn day in Kansas City, Missouri, the life of John Jr. Owens came to a sudden and violent end. On October 25, 2017, the 31-year-old was shot and killed near the intersection of Independence and Elmwood avenues in the Old Northeast area. According to witnesses at the scene, Owens was engaged in a conversation with at least one other person just moments before the fatal shots were fired. When police arrived, they found Owens, who was pronounced dead a short time later.
