In the early morning hours of Monday, March 6, 2017, tragedy struck in the Walnut Park East neighborhood of St. Louis. A 26-year-old male named Tony Portis was on the porch of a home on the 4900 block of Thrush Avenue when his life was cut short. The quiet of the morning was shattered by the sound of gunfire, and by the time police arrived around 4:50 a.m., Portis had been fatally wounded.
