On August 19, 2022, Derek Phillips, a 47-year-old African American male, was fatally shot at the Brickhouse Lounge in DeSoto, Texas. Phillips, who worked as a security guard at the lounge, was unarmed when he was shot multiple times by Toussel Kuhn, a 48-year-old man from Savannah, Texas. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. after an argument escalated over lounge rules, specifically regarding smoking cigarettes inside the establishment.
