The investigation revealed that Nathaniel's death was connected to a crime spree involving two suspects, 18-year-old Evan Scott Redmond and 19-year-old Camren
Keith Johnson. According to court documents, Evan Redmond confessed to killing Nathaniel Alaniz while attempting to buy a gun from him. Redmond described Nathaniel as his number one drug dealer. After committing the murder, Redmond contacted his friend Johnson to plan their escape.
The suspects then decided to rob two other men, who were also described as drug dealers, at a gas station in southeast Houston. During this robbery, Redmond and Johnson shot and killed Joshua Daniel Perkins and another unidentified 22-year-old man. Redmond stole a white Mercedes Benz from the scene and led police on a chase before crashing the car and surrendering.
Both Evan Redmond and Camren Johnson were charged with capital murder and are facing possible death penalties. The charges carry a $3 million bond for each suspect.
