confrontation occurred at a red light. Eric Johnson, a 21-year-old former Marine, and his friends allegedly made sexually vulgar comments towards Sara and her friends. The situation escalated, and Johnson fired two shots at Sara's car, striking her in the head. She was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead.
Johnson was arrested in Arizona on January 5, 2016, and was dismissed from the Marine Corps the following day. He was convicted of murder by a Texas jury in August 2017 and sentenced to 44 years in prison. During the trial, Johnson's defense argued that he did not intend to kill Sara and that he only meant to fire warning shots. However, the prosecution successfully demonstrated that the bullets were fired downward, supporting the charge of murder.
