Davy Crockett, a former U.S. Congressman and legendary frontiersman, died on March 6, 1836, at the age of 49 during the Battle of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Crockett, who was of European descent, had traveled to Texas to join the fight against Mexican forces led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna. He was among the defenders of the Alamo, a mission-turned-fortress where a small group of Texans held out against the Mexican army for 13 days.
