On April 23, 2025, 18-year-old Caleb Quick, a high school senior from Clovis, California, was tragically shot and killed outside a McDonald's restaurant in the city. Quick, who was weeks away from beginning training with the U.S. Air Force, was fatally wounded in what authorities described as a shocking act of violence. Surveillance footage captured the moments leading up to the shooting, showing Quick inside the fast-food restaurant while one of the suspects appeared to be watching him from a
distance. The footage later showed Quick exiting the establishment, followed by the suspect, who then opened fire before fleeing the scene.
For weeks, the case remained unsolved, leaving the Clovis community in distress. Authorities received nearly 100 tips, and Crime Stoppers offered a $40,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. However, none of the tips directly led investigators to the suspects. Eventually, Clovis Police identified two teenagers—a 16-year-old male and a 16-year-old female—as the primary suspects in Quick’s murder. Both suspects were students in the Clovis Unified School District and were reportedly in a relationship. The male suspect was believed to be the shooter, while the female suspect was allegedly involved in driving a white Tesla that was used in the crime.
Investigators revealed that the suspects had arrived at the McDonald's nearly 40 minutes before Quick, staying in the parking lot before leaving. When Quick later arrived, the male suspect returned on foot, while the female suspect drove back in the Tesla. Surveillance footage showed the male suspect observing Quick inside the restaurant for over ten minutes before following him outside and shooting him. Authorities later recovered the Tesla from a home in Fresno and discovered a firearm at the male suspect’s residence, which they believe may have been the murder weapon.
By May 10, 2025, both suspects had retained private defense attorneys, who arranged for their arrests. Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming stated that detectives were working through the weekend to finalize their case for the district attorney, with formal murder charges expected to be filed by Tuesday. Fleming emphasized that the investigation was still ongoing and could take months to complete. The Clovis Unified School District responded to the tragedy by offering mental health and emotional wellness support to students affected by the incident. The case has deeply impacted the community, with many expressing disbelief that such a violent crime could occur in Clovis.
