Mark Howard Hall, a 22-year-old white male, was murdered on or around December 31, 1975. Born on April 3, 1953, in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho, Mark Hall was the son of Darwin Leroy Hall and Lois Gene Soloman. At the time of his death, he was residing in Santa Ana, Orange County, California. His life was tragically cut short when he became one of the many victims of Randy Steven Kraft, a notorious American serial killer.
Randy Kraft, also known by several monikers including "The
Freeway Killer" and "The Scorecard Killer," was responsible for the rape, torture, and murder of numerous young men across California and other states between 1972 and 1983. Kraft maintained a cryptic scorecard with coded entries believed to reference his victims, and Mark Howard Hall, the 22-year-old white male from Idaho, was among those listed. Hall’s body was discovered in California, and his death was later linked to Kraft’s killing spree.
Kraft was apprehended on May 14, 1983, and subsequently convicted in May 1989 of sixteen counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, among other charges including sodomy and mutilation. He was sentenced to death and remains incarcerated at the California Institution for Men. Although Kraft was convicted for sixteen murders, investigators believe he may have been responsible for up to sixty-seven killings, with Mark Howard Hall’s case among those attributed to him.
No other suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Mark Hall’s death. The arrest and conviction of Randy Kraft closed the case on Hall’s murder, placing it among the many tragic outcomes of Kraft’s decade-long killing spree. Hall was buried in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in his hometown of Pocatello, Idaho, where his memory is preserved by family and community.
