Julian Garcia, 27, a Hispanic/Latino man from Fresno, California, died on June 20, 2025, after being shot in the upper body during an overnight confrontation in a southwest Fresno parking lot. Officers were dispatched at 2:09 a.m. by a ShotSpotter alert reporting three rounds near South Plumas Street and East Lorena Avenue; they found Julian Garcia unresponsive and he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Earlier that night, according to police, a group of friends had been bar-hopping before heading to a party at an apartment complex off South Plumas and East Lorena. An argument between Julian Garcia, 27, male, and another man resumed in the parking lot, where Julian Garcia reportedly struck the other individual. The man then drew a handgun and fired three shots; the suspected shooter fled, and Julian Garcia, 27, male, ran a short distance before collapsing. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:39 a.m.
Homicide detectives soon identified the suspect as 41-year-old Raymond Ornelas Torres. A murder warrant was issued while detectives sought the public’s help locating him, noting that the killing followed a verbal altercation that escalated in the parking lot.
On July 16–17, 2025, authorities announced that Raymond Ornelas Torres had been located in Indio, California, by Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies working with Fresno police. He was arrested and was to be transported back to Fresno County to be booked on a murder charge in the death of Julian Garcia, 27, male. Investigators continued to ask for additional information from the public following the arrest.
