In what has been described as a targeted act, Akash Banerjee, a 22-year-old male student of Indian-origin at Georgia Tech, was fatally shot in the head on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The incident occurred on the ninth floor of The Connector, an off-campus student apartment complex on Spring Street in Midtown Atlanta. Banerjee was discovered unconscious in the hallway by fellow residents who heard a loud noise. He was transported to Grady Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
