In the spring of 2025, with his high school graduation just two weeks away, 18-year-old Demetrius 'Meechie' Phyall's life was tragically cut short on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland. A Black male with his future ahead of him, Phyall was a student at Overlea High School and worked as a community aid and lifeguard for Baltimore City Recreation and Parks. His death left his family and community grappling with the sudden and violent loss of a young life on the cusp of a significant milestone.
