On January 15, 2026, the life of 29-year-old Myshaela Burnham was tragically cut short in a violent attack at her workplace in Bradenton, Florida. A mother to a six-year-old son, Burnham was shot and killed at her desk in a medical office complex on 4th Avenue Circle East. The incident, which unfolded around 12:48 p.m., also left a coworker seriously injured.
The alleged assailant was identified as Myshaela's 29-year-old ex-boyfriend, Keith Roberts Jr.
According to police, Roberts, a former security guard, entered the office building armed with a shotgun and a handgun and opened fire on Burnham at point-blank range. The close proximity of the shooting resulted in a female coworker, Summer Freitag, also being struck by the gunfire. Freitag was shot multiple times and was hospitalized in critical condition.
Following the shooting, Roberts fled the scene in a vehicle. However, thanks to descriptions provided by witnesses, law enforcement was able to locate him quickly. With the assistance of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and the Palmetto Police Department, Roberts was apprehended in Palmetto within 25 minutes of the shooting.
Keith Roberts Jr. was arrested and has been charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm. He is currently being held at the Manatee County Jail without bond. The investigation into the tragic death of Myshaela Burnham is ongoing. Fundraising campaigns have been established to support Burnham's son and to assist with Freitag's medical expenses.
