On the evening of March 9, 2026, in Dumfries, Virginia, 18-year-old Louis Anthony Boone was shot and killed while playing basketball. A recent graduate of Freedom High School, Boone was a freshman at Norfolk State University studying mass communications and was home for spring break. He was a promising student, actively involved in the university's newspaper, the Spartan Echo, as a photographer and was a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
