In the early evening of September 8, 2026, a verbal altercation inside a home in the 5900 block of Jesse Owens Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama, turned deadly. Brian Montez Swain, a 54-year-old man from Birmingham, was shot and killed during the dispute. West Precinct officers responded to a call of a person shot at approximately 6:20 p.m. and found Swain unresponsive at the scene.
