In the spring of 2023, a rising Birmingham rapper's life was cut short in a hail of gunfire. JerrMarius Deonta Sills, a 21-year-old male known professionally as Li Heat, was walking in the 1500 block of Avenue L in Ensley on the evening of May 27, 2023, when he was ambushed. Multiple assailants reportedly approached him and opened fire, striking him numerous times in what police described as a targeted attack. Over 20 shots were said to have been fired during the violent encounter.
