In the early morning hours of September 5, 2026, a quiet Maywood, California neighborhood was disturbed by the sight of smoke billowing from a two-story residence on East 61st Street. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to reports of the fire at approximately 2:25 a.m. Upon extinguishing the flames, firefighters and sheriff's deputies made a grim discovery inside a bedroom that transformed a house fire investigation into a homicide case.
