On June 2, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., 28-year-old Armando Islas Jr. was fatally shot near the Southwest Rio Vista YMCA in Maywood, California. The incident occurred in the 4800 block of East 58th Street, west of the Los Angeles River. Upon arrival, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies found Islas Jr. with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner later identified the victim as Armando Islas Jr., confirming the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds and ruling the manner of death as homicide.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, Islas Jr.'s family established a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses. They described him as a cherished son and brother, known for his passion for building BMX bikes and skateboards from scratch. His family emphasized that his untimely passing due to senseless gun violence has left an irreplaceable void in their lives.
As of now, authorities have not provided information regarding any suspects or arrests related to the case.
