In the summer of 2010, the life of George Anthony "GAP" Phillips, Sr., a 54-year-old Black man from Birmingham, Alabama, came to a close. A native of the city, he passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2010. Phillips was a man who had served his country, having been honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1976. Following his military service, he worked as an independent contractor, providing his services to local businesses and residences.
