Martinez Laudell Smith, a 21-year-old male from Birmingham, was killed in the early hours of April 9, 2023, after what began as a party near Legion Field turned violent. Police said officers were already in the area when they heard gunfire and rushed toward the 200 block of 8th Avenue West, near the Peyton Place event center in Graymont.
