In the quiet predawn hours of July 5, 2024, a sense of unease settled over a Birmingham, Alabama neighborhood. Renard Keith West, a 55-year-old male, was at his home on Cotton Avenue when a man's erratic behavior in the street outside drew his attention. Concerned, West stepped out of the safety of his house to investigate the disturbance. Tragically, it was a decision that would cost him his life.
