In the bright afternoon of March 18, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm at the busy intersection of Cottage Hill and Azalea Roads in Mobile, Alabama. When the echo of the shots faded, two young lives were abruptly ended. Inside a vehicle, police found 19-year-old Cameron Montgomery and 16-year-old Ja'Kobi Freeman, both suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. The male victims were pronounced dead at the scene, becoming the city's 11th and 12th homicide victims of the year.
