In the summer of 2015, the city of Birmingham, Alabama, was grappling with a surge in violence that saw the number of homicides rise dramatically. It was during this period of unrest that the life of Christopher Charles Cooley, a 41-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On July 1, 2015, Cooley was found fatally shot in the College Hills neighborhood of Birmingham, a community that was unaccustomed to such violent acts and was left in a state of shock.
