Rashon Deidrenette Bester Epps was killed outside her home in Hoover, Alabama, in the first hours of Saturday, June 28, 2014, when a domestic dispute turned into something final and irreversible. She was a 29-year-old Black / African American woman, and she was three months pregnant. Neighbors and relatives would later describe the tension around the relationship as something that had been building, but the violence that morning arrived with the suddenness of a single gunshot.
