Benjamin Lawrence “Lon” O’Bryant, a 48-year-old male, was killed in Piedmont, Alabama, on October 6, 1918, after what appears to have been a sudden and tragic misunderstanding on a dark stretch of road near his home. According to the available online accounts, O’Bryant had heard gunfire and went out to investigate.
