In the fading light of a March evening in 1901, a long and dedicated career in law enforcement tragically neared its end in a Mobile, Alabama railyard. Detective Edward McGrath Morris, a 52-year-old man who had served the Mobile Police Department for a quarter of a century, would succumb to a fatal gunshot wound the following day, April 1, 1901.
