Tacorya Najuan Love, a 33-year-old Black woman from Birmingham, was killed on July 17, 2017, in the city’s North East Lake area. Authorities said her body was found just after 8 a.m. in a grassy area on the 8300 block of 5th Avenue North, and early reporting indicated she had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators believed she had been injured nearby on the 8400 block of 6th Avenue North and then tried to make her way toward help before collapsing.
