On June 7, 2024, a tragic incident occurred on the northbound Florida Turnpike near Mile Marker 49, just south of Hollywood Boulevard in Broward County, Florida. Beatrice Saintvil and her 4-year-old daughter, Janelle Souffrant, were shot around 11:14 p.m. while inside their vehicle, which was parked in the left breakdown lane.
Upon arrival, Florida Highway Patrol troopers found both Saintvil and her daughter injured with gunshot wounds.
Hollywood Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Saintvil to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Unfortunately, Janelle Souffrant was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Broward Sheriff's Office is actively investigating this double homicide and is seeking the public's help to identify the suspect(s) responsible. A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest, with an additional $10,000 matched by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The scene of the crime was described as chaotic by a witness, Anyley Cabrera, who encountered the area while driving home from work. She noted the lack of traffic at that time and the extensive damage to the vehicle, including shattered windows.
