Trejan Wadell Crosby, a 24-year-old African American man, was fatally shot in West Palm Beach, Florida, on March 25, 2024. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning following a series of altercations between Crosby and multiple individuals. Witnesses reported that Crosby had been drinking with a group of people, which often led to him becoming argumentative and aggressive.
One of these confrontations escalated into a physical fight between Crosby and 49-year-old Paul Blackshear outside a Walgreens pharmacy on Broadway. During the fight, Crosby reportedly knocked out some of Blackshear’s teeth and split his lip.
Following the altercation, Crosby moved to a nearby gas station with two other individuals. As he attempted to cross Broadway, Blackshear allegedly approached him and fired multiple gunshots. Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the sound of gunfire, and Blackshear was seen running away from the scene moments later. Another video recorded earlier in the night showed Blackshear entering a rideshare vehicle, which was later identified through Uber records.
Authorities arrested Blackshear and charged him with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm as a felon. He was taken into custody after police obtained a warrant to collect his DNA. During questioning, Blackshear admitted to fighting with Crosby but denied any involvement in the shooting. He was held without bail following a court hearing on April 10, where a judge assigned him a public defender. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to gather evidence related to the case.
