On January 6, 2024, a drug deal gone wrong led to the death of 21-year-old Patrick Stanley Jr. in Ocala, Florida. The incident occurred in the 2200 block of SW 2nd St., where Ocala police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Stanley had been shot in his leg. He was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that the shooting involved two individuals, 20-year-old Jaden Burton and 23-year-old Kamrun Goffe, who were selling marijuana to Stanley. According to police, Stanley attempted to steal the marijuana and was shot in the leg as he tried to run away. It is not known whether Stanley was armed at the time of the incident.
Burton and Goffe were identified through video footage and witness statements. They were in two separate vehicles, a blue Toyota Camry and a gray Hyundai Elantra, which were linked to the shooting. Both individuals were arrested and charged with murder. Goffe was additionally charged with engaging in a criminal offense with a firearm and possession of over 20 grams of marijuana. Both are being held without bond in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office jail.
Jaden Burton has a previous arrest record in Marion County, having been arrested in May 2022 on charges of fleeing/eluding from an officer. Kamrun Goffe, however, has no previous arrests in Marion County. Both Burton and Goffe are scheduled to appear in court on February 6 at 9:00 a.m.
The Ocala Police Department expressed their condolences to the family of Patrick Stanley Jr., stating, "Our hearts go out to the loved ones of Mr. Stanley Jr. during this difficult time." The case highlights the tragic consequences of a botched drug transaction and the ongoing legal proceedings against the suspects involved.
