On November 9, 2023, the Leon County Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Cedar Hill Road in Tallahassee, Florida. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of 22-year-old Artez Marquis Moore, an African American male, near the boat landing area at Carr Lake. An autopsy confirmed the nature of the death to be a homicide.
Artez Marquis Moore, a resident of Decatur County, Georgia, was born on February 22, 2001, to Mr.
Terry Hughes and Miss Stacy Akins. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, where he was active in football and track. Moore was also a member of Second Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, siblings, a daughter named Serenity Alayah-Janae Moore, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The investigation into Moore's death led to multiple arrests. On November 21, 2023, LCSO's Violent Crimes Detectives obtained arrest warrants for 23-year-old Anthony Jenkins, a resident of Columbus, Georgia, in connection to the murder. Jenkins was apprehended by the United States Marshals Services and was in custody at the Muscogee County Jail, awaiting extradition to Leon County. He was charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping to facilitate a felony.
Further developments in the case included the arrest of 32-year-old Rayvon Moten from Bainbridge, Georgia. On January 11, 2024, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Moten, and he was arrested on February 2, 2024, by members of the United States Marshals Service. Moten was transported to the Decatur County Jail, awaiting extradition to Leon County on charges of premeditated murder, kidnapping to facilitate a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The case saw another significant development on May 7, 2024, when the United States Marshals Services, with assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, arrested 32-year-old Roy D. Senior in Jacksonville, Florida. Senior was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping to facilitate a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was being held at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Detention Facility, awaiting extradition to Leon County.
According to a newly released affidavit, Moore was kidnapped, zip-tied, and murdered. The affidavit alleges that Moore was bound and restrained before being shot and left near the boat ramp at Carr Lake.
The investigation into the murder of 22-year-old African American male Artez Marquis Moore remains active and ongoing. The Leon County Sheriff's Office continues to seek information from the public to aid in the case.
