Tyrone Colay, a 34-year-old resident of Palatka, Florida, was pronounced dead at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital on August 21, 2023. His death resulted from a shooting that occurred during a domestic disturbance at a residence on East Oak Hill Drive.
The incident was reported to authorities at 1:30 a.m. and involved a dispute between Colay and Regina Daniels, 53, who resided in the same home.
According to the police, the shooting could be heard over a 911 call, indicating the severity of the situation. The dispute escalated, leading to the fatal shooting in the backyard of the residence.
Regina Daniels has reportedly told authorities that she shot Colay and has been cooperating with detectives. Despite her cooperation, no arrests had been made as of the initial investigation. The police are still investigating the case, with assistance from the State Attorney’s Homicide Investigations Unit and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene Unit.
Colay and Daniels had a history of legal interactions, including a child support case filed by Daniels in 2011, which was reopened in 2018 and closed again in March 2023. However, it was not confirmed whether the two were married.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to finalize the details of the incident. The Palatka Police Department is handling the case, and an arrest could still be made as investigators continue to gather evidence and tie down loose ends.
