John'te D. Williams, 24, a Black man, was killed late Saturday night, June 1, 2024, in downtown New Orleans’ Iberville area, where the night air near Canal Street can shift from tourist glow to sudden chaos in a heartbeat. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Marais Street around 11:05 p.m. and arrived to find him suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics fought to save him there at the scene, but the effort failed, and he was pronounced dead where he fell.
