On September 14, 2024, Anthony Okoye, a 41-year-old tire shop employee from Bladensburg, Maryland, was fatally shot during a dispute at Ameritech Tire in Capitol Heights. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when police were called for a welfare check at the tire shop. Upon arrival, officers found Okoye suffering from gunshot wounds.
